Urban Camouflage: Styling My New French Connection Coat

Army fancy dress was always my favourite at university, I loved rockin’ the tough girl vibe which seems to come naturally with my slightly fiesty Leo personality. Needless to say, I have a sneaky little obsession with camo…

Classy camo…

Perhaps that’s why I fell in love with this French Connection coat so much, because the camo print reminds me of the good old days at uni. At £170 though, I spent months umm’ing and ahh’ing whether I’d get enough use out if it (fyi, I would) but in the back of my mind I always hoped it’d go into the sale, and guess what? It did! A few clicks later and it was mine.

When it arrived I immediately knew it was going to be perfect, even before trying it on. The thing is, French Connection sizes are so reliable and even when I’m shopping in store rather than online, I’m terrible at trying clothes on before I buy them. I’m a ‘buy before you try’ kinda girl and more often than not that works for me.

In a pea coat almost blazer type style, the fit is slightly oversized, which if you know me you’ll know I’m all about looser items on top and tighter ones on the bottom, so it gets a big thumbs up from me for that. As for the material, it’s what you’d expect from a brand such as French Connection. Good quality with the majority material being wool, it’ll definitely keep me feeling toasty this winter.

The Combination

I’ve paired it with a few other newer pieces from my wardrobe, with the exception of my old trusty Alexander Wang ‘Emile’ bag which I bought from The Outnet a good few years ago now and in truth, is looking slightly worse for wear in some areas, as well as this dark grey New Look bobble hat that I literally throw on with everything.

These ripped jeans from Zara have rips in all the right places and I love the shade of them. I bought them about a month ago whilst I was having a girly day shopping in Birmingham with my mum and I have to admit they’re slightly snug after a few too many glasses of wine and endless amounts of chocolate over the festive period. These Zara boots were bought at the same time too. Flat black chelsea style boots with studding detailing around the bottom, they’re both classy and practical. Plus, they were a bargain at only £29.99!

I can’t wait to pair this coat with so many other items in my wardrobe. Right now I’m dying to dress it up and wear it with some leather effect biker trousers, a plain black top and some heels.

New Year Wishes

Can you believe it’s New Years Eve and 2016 is all about over? I can’t. The year has flown by and like most, it’s been a bit of a mixed year.

Whatever you’re doing tonight, whoever you’re with, be thankful. Think about all that you have and show some love. Life is too short to dwell on things, look at the bigger picture and remember to live, don’t just survive. Work hard but play hard too, and fight for what you want and believe in. And always, no matter how big or small it may be, remember to dream.

Happy new year everyone! I hope you all have a wonderful one.
