If there’s one thing I absolutely adore, it’s having little date nights with Jordan. Making a conscious effort to go somewhere nice or different or snuggle up on the sofa together with some wine and popcorn. Just appreciating each others company and ignoring all barriers and distractions that can often get in the way – deadlines, our phones, worries or stresses, tiredness and just life in general can often mean that we don’t get to spend as much quality time together as we’d like. So yesterday we decided to go out for dinner, just me and Jordan. Nowhere too fancy or expensive, just somewhere simple where we could go and have a casual meal and a few drinks whilst chattering away happily.
…I wanted to make an effort with my hair and makeup but keep my outfit very laid back and casual.
For my hair it was just a case of roughly drying it, quickly creating a bit of texture here and there using some Babyliss curling tongs, brushing through it and then adding a pump of hair oil before finishing it off with a spritz of hairspray.
My makeup on the other hand, was a bit more fancy…
I started off with a newbie to my stash, the Freedom ProStudio Strobe Cream* which adds a very subtle sheen to the skin without making you look like a disco ball. I thought I’d play it safe with foundation and use an old (and current!) favourite, the Clinique Even Better Foundation in Alabaster which is still a touch too dark for me but once blended down the neck it’s not too noticeable. The Even Better foundation is lovely, it offers a medium buildable coverage and a natural look to the skin allowing my freckles to delicately peek through and there’s no need for touch ups during the day with it’s long lasting staying power. That said, I do wish that their Alabaster shade was a little lighter as shade-wise it is a littler darker than the lightest shade in other foundations. To hide discolouration on my under eye area I used the Rimmel Lasting Finish Concealer in 10, which as you can imagine with my pale skin, is the lightest shade. I usually prefer more liquid-y concealers (think Mac Pro Longwear Concealer) but for a pot concealer this ones rather nice and covers where it should.
Base done, it’s time to move onto my favourite part – the eyes! I’ve been so impressed with the Rosie For Autograph Eyeshadow Quad in Copper Gold Rush since I bought it a few months ago and I just can’t stop using it! The colours are so beautiful, pigmented, wearable and pair together perfectly. Plus they’re the epitome of Rosie Huntington-Whitely herself, I mean, have you seen her Instagram account!?! Huge girl crush right there. I used a combination of the two shades on the right with the beige shade (bottom right) on the inner corner of my lid and also lining the inner side of my lower lash line, whilst the mauve shade (top right) was used in the outer corner of my lid and blended into the beige shade when reaching the middle of my lid. I also blended the mauve shade into my crease to add more definition as well as on the outer half of my lower lash line. I then finished it off with a few coats of Max Factor False Lash Effect 24 Hour Mascara and filled in my brows with the Freedom Duo Eyebrow Powder in Soft Brown*. Nothing to complicated, but more fancy than a simple swoop of eyeshadow.
I brushed a bit of my incredibly well-loved Nars Laguna Bronzer and a sweep of the Collection Speedy Highlighter in Pearl Sheen over the cheekbones. Then continued to put more highlighter under my brows, down my nose and on my cupid’s bow to make it a more glowy, and finished the look off with a lipstick I used to wear non-stop – Rimmel’s Kate Lasting Finish Lipstick in 08 which is a gorgeous mauve pink tone that I’m glad I’ve rediscovered.
And that’s it, I was ready to go!

It was a lovely evening, and it’s times like this that make you realise just how lucky you are. How thankful you are to have what you have (and who you have!) in your life. Someone who you can completely be yourself around, who loves you for you, who you can show your crazy side and who joins in with your jokes. Someone who doesn’t care if you can’t be bothered to do your hair or makeup that day, or even if you feel like staying in your pyjamas. Someone who makes you happy and you know that you do the same for them too.
Camembert, pork belly and mash, a few alcoholic beverages, a film and good company. Bliss!
