New Year, Improved Me: My 2017 Health, Happiness & Fitness Goals

In 2017 I’m grabbing some determination, staying motivated and grabbing the bull by the horns, as it were, so that I can truly make some improvements this year.

I want to improve my health, after finding out I have Coeliac Disease in November it’s really motivated me to be a healthier version of myself. And with that comes not only food, but also fitness. I want to be the best I can be, so I’ve comprised a list of my goals for this year…


Eat better, stick to my gluten free diet & heal my body

In terms of my diet I’m already a relatively healthy eater and like to follow the 80%/20% rule, and I’ve not been tempted in the slightest to deviate from my new gluten free diet but I have suffered with side effects when my food has been contaminated in pubs and restaurants, as well as accidentally drinking a glass of coke that had barley in it (who knew!?). So I want to educate myself more in regards to Coeliac Disease and a gluten free diet, as well as learning how to cook more gluten free dishes and continuously trying out new foods and gluten free brands.

Make exercise a priority

I want to be fitter, I want to be stronger. I want to make exercising the norm for me which is something that I’ve not done since I was in secondary school 10 years ago. So it’s safe to say it’s been a while despite my half-arsed attempts at dabbling in it every now and again, which were obviously complete failures. I feel like this year will be different though because I feel more motivated than ever and I think that’s all due to me finally finding out why I’ve been feeling so rubbish, especially over the last year. The Coeliac Disease diagnosis is honestly what’s given me a firm kick up the bum and I’m going to make an entire lifestyle change rather than solely a diet related one.

Spend more time with family & friends

I’m not the best at this, and it’s not because I don’t want to spend time with friends or family. There’s many reasons why it’s not always been the easiest of things to do: feeling rubbish health-wise, lack of money, not enough time etc etc. Now that’s not to say I don’t see family or friends, because I do, but it’s just not been as much as I’d like. I’m sure it’s the same for many of you too, especially when you don’t live in the same city as your family or some of your friends. In 2017 I’m going to make a conscious effort to catch up with the people in my life who matter and be around more.
