I spent most of yesterday faffing around with things in the living room. I’d been unpacking and putting out items I’d ordered, rearranging this and that, along with some general cleaning and tidying. Now that the living room is all good, spruced up and brimming with more character, it’s brought to my attention how much I really wished we had a new coffee table…
The coffee table we currently have is actually coffee table no.2. No.1 was a cheapy ikea one that I had even before me and Jordan started living together and when we moved into our first real home together I let Jordan buy a new one. Stupidly, I wouldn’t let him have an office desk in the living room at the time (we now have one!) and so he bought a coffee table where the top lifts up and it turns into more of a desk. Yes it’s rather nifty, but unfortunately it’s nowhere near stylish enough for my liking and truth be told, it’s already started to lose quite a lot of it’s wood veneer from the top. So I’m on the hunt for a new one and as I’ve tried to tie in more black in the living room to match the inner part of our fireplace, I’ve got my eyes on some wood and dark numbers to add to that. Here’s what I’ve narrowed it down to so far…
The budget option: I’ve actually had my eye on this Hygena Luna Coffee Table from Argos for a while now and now that it’s half price in the sale I’m so tempted to snap it up. I love the black base and wooden top, in fact, the whole of this range screams out to me. I feel like eventually I’d end up changing the drawer knobs to cup handles to make it slightly more edgy, but there’s nothing wrong with customising things right? Especially if they’re a bit of a bargain!
The all black one: I only discovered this Aldwych Warm Black Coffee Table by Neptune yesterday but that doesn’t mean that I’m any less in love with it compared to my other options. It’s a modern but classic design that would look great in any style of room and because of it’s all black colour, it’s a statement in it’s own right.
The no coffee table but a footstool instead option: I’ve also toyed with the idea of not having a coffee table at all and having a footstool such as this Homescapes Black Knitted Footstool! I’m a big fan of those knitted pouffe’s that everyone has (me included!) but love that this one is slightly different with a flat top and wooden legs, more of a footstool than a pouffe. However I’m having doubts about how it would hold up with how much drinks might get knocked over on it (even with a tray) and whether it’d withstand daily life. That said, I just love how cosy and homely they look!
The statement piece: Well isn’t this a rather special piece!?! This industrial apothecary style wood topped coffee table, the Archive Coffee Table from Made, oozes character and would definitely be a statement in our living room. It’s rather pricey but is it worth investing in? Or on the other hand, will I get fed up of it quickly and then feel compelled to pretend I still love it due to it’s price tag?
What do you think? Which one should I go for?
