Sometimes a quick getaway is all you need.

I knew I needed one, but I never really knew just how much until I got there.

We’d travelled over to The Cotswolds late on Friday evening and even in the darkness you could see how beautiful it was, but it was the next morning, when the sun had risen high in the sky that we saw just how much it really shone. Bourton-On-The-Water, perhaps one of the most famous villages in the Cotswolds. As it’s name suggests it’s in a rather idyllic location set beside the River Windrush, and it’s easy to see why it’s often voted as one of the prettiest villages in England. We browsed it’s many shops, looking at pretty postcards and little trinkets, until we decided we were in need of a bit of a pick me up. A coffee shaped pick me up.

We were in luck too, because Bourton-On-The-Water has no shortage of places where you can get one of those. We settled on The Croft¬†with it’s patio area, charcoal coloured window frames and lovely lanterns. It was right up our street.

We also made a friend as we chatted and drank our coffees. This friendly little fellow had his eyes on us as he hopped happily along the wall.

Coffees finished, I picked up one of The Croft’s gluten free Victoria Sponge cakes to go and we continued with our wander…

Max eyed up Bourton’s very own Motor Museum but we told him they didn’t allow dogs and the buildings were much more interesting to look at. Don’t you agree?

Ready for our next destination we headed back to the car and as we drove away, I gave my GF Victoria Sponge Cake a try (a.k.a. I ate the whole thing!).
